About Us

The Nook is a farm shop, café and Information Centre based on the Epiacum Roman Fort site, 2 miles north of Alston, Cumbria (just over  the Northumberland border), directly on the A689 road (Alston – Brampton). We opened in Autumn 2019.

Cafe & Farm Shop :

We are OPEN EVERY DAY (seven days a week) from 9am until 4.30, serving our full menu in the cafe and offering a range of fresh and frozen local produce in our farm shop. Our home bred beef and lamb is used in our menu and available for purchase too

Information Centre: We are pleased to promote our local area and specifically the Epiacum Roman Fort which is on site. There are two walking trails, accessible from our car park and interpretive leaflets are available from the “Centurion’s Hut” in the car park.

Our newly launched “Venatus Trail” is suitable for all the family (young and young at heart). You can explore the site with “Marcus” (our roman soldier character) to find hidden clues across the site – and receive a certificate from The Nook.
